fraying thoughts unwinding on canvas

Only fly so far

We can only fly so far

Before our wings are clipped
And our souls lost to the
sounds across the great divide.

Still we struggle to take flight.
And still we look to the setting sun
Peer into the deep darkness of our hearts.
We don’t run, we don’t hide.

Bound by the limits of time,
We only run with bones of memories.
And wings that can only fly so far.

When my soul is scattered to the wind - A fleeting ghost in your memories - I will be - Freed into the sweet twilight snow
Only the hourglass knows.

It’s nearing midnight and here I am, alone on the platform for the last train to nowhere. I’m not ready to leave but my ticket says it’s my time to go.

If this dream of mine
Was never meant to be
Then why must I
Chase after what will never be?
Fragments of broken dreams.

Why do I fall in love with
Broken shadows of illusory ghosts?

Why do I believe in something
That’s not there?

I feel like I’m quietly
Fading from this life.
Colors all around are
Fading to grays and blacks
Tired of holding on
On to nothing.

When I leave this time tomorrow
Would you let go of my hand
On the platform onwards to
A nameless destination.
Would you wave good-bye
And keep me close in your memories still?

Would you still remember
Who it was I kept searching for?
When I become
Like the melting snow of
Another passing winter.

missing someone isn’t about how long it’s been since you’ve seen them last or the amount of time since you’ve talked. it’s about that very moment when you’re doing something, and you wish that they were right there with you.

In the end - it just wasn’t enough. Watching the ships recede into the sunset - he awaits darkness to fall. Shadows become company - Knowing the lighted beacons were never meant for him.
